History of musugunda naadu

 The King Musukuntha chola chakravarthy was a chola ruler who ruled the parts of chola Kingdom from Aarur ( Thiruvarur ). He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva.
 It is said that he had a monkey face and suffering from skin related disease.
 He possessed the linga worshipped by Brahma and Indra.
 He was the patron of many important temples like Alangudi Abadhsagayeswarar temple, Kailayanatha temple , Thiruvaarur Thyagaraja temple etc.,
 The King beheaded his minister Amuthokar since he refused to give half of punniya accrued because of having done siva kainkarya. So he got doshams and relieved from it by worshipping the God Alangudi Abadhsagayeswarar .
 Musuguntha Chola might have lived in the medieval chola period.
 There was a popular shiva temple 'Musukuntha Vinnagaram' which is not existing nowadays.
